Una Una

A volcanic island with the active Mount Colo, black-sand beaches and several dive sites.

Overview

About Una Una

Una Una is a volcanic island of about 146 km² north-west of the main Togean group. Its centre is Mount Colo, an active volcano with a crater around 2 km wide. The island is mainly visited for diving and for guided treks to the crater.

In 1983 a major eruption covered much of the island in ash and the population was evacuated. Today fewer than 2,000 people live in villages on the east coast. There are no roads; people travel along coastal paths or by boat.

Good to know

Una Una is further from the other islands than most visitors expect. Plan the crossing with your accommodation.

  • Book accommodation in advance and ask the resort to arrange the boat.
  • Crossings depend on the weather. Keep a spare day in your plans.
  • Treks to the crater require a local guide.
  • Tarsiers are found on most Togean islands, but not on Una Una.
