Overview
About Malenge
Malenge is a forested island in the eastern Togean Islands. There are no roads or cars, and electricity comes mainly from generators in the evening. A 1.8 km wooden bridge connects it to Pulau Papan, a Bajau village built over the water.
Accommodation includes a resort with a dive centre and several family homestays.
Village etiquette
Pulau Papan is a residential village, not a tourist site. Visitors are welcome if they respect local customs.
- Cover shoulders and knees when walking through the village.
- Ask before photographing people, especially children and elders.
- Do not give money or sweets to children. Buying from family stalls is a better way to contribute.
- Stay on the public walkways unless invited in.
