Public ferry pulling away from the harbour at Ampana, heading out towards the Togean Islands

Getting There

Most of the work of a Togean trip is getting there. The usual route is the ferry from Ampana, on the mainland of Central Sulawesi, to Wakai on Batudaka, with a crossing from Gorontalo as the main alternative from the north. From Wakai, small boats take you out to the islands where most people stay.

Start with Ruben's account of getting from Ampana to Kadidiri in a single day, then read Tasya's notes on the crossing from Gorontalo if you're coming from the north. We don't publish timetables we haven't checked recently, so expect to confirm departures locally.
